2025 Forest River Flagstaff Classic F281RK
Despite coming from the factory with two 200W solar panels and a 30A PWM solar charge controller, this wasn't nearly enough for our customers planning on living in this 5th wheel full-time. The single 12V lead acid battery was also rather lacking in performance. The two 200W solar panels were able to be integrated into the new system, and the other old equipment was removed.
Four additional 200W solar panels were added for a total of 1,200W of solar on the roof. The solar charge controller was upgraded to 60A MPPT to allow for the extra solar power. The battery bank was upgraded to 24V lithium iron phosphate batteries, paired with a 70A 24V to 12V converter to allow the existing 12V system to continue to operate as normal. An inverter/charger was installed to power the entire trailer, even when not plugged into generator/shore power. To top it all off, a Cerbo GX communication hub and touchscreen display were installed, allowing for local and remote system monitoring at a moment's notice.
These upgrades allow the electrical system to be fully powered all the time, both on-grid and off-grid. An essential upgrade for full-time living and travel!
